    I wish to personally express my condolences, and we at the Edgar Snow Memorial Fund are all saddened by the news of the passing of Huang Hua（黄华）. One of the most moving experiences I had was sitting next to him as we were watching the CCTV production of "Mao and Edgar Snow." It was not in English at that time, and he was giving a running commentary. He was a great man and a great friend to America. We will dearly miss him.

    I'm attaching the obituary of Huang Hua that appeared in the Thursday, November 25, New York Times. This nice obituary revealed at least partially how instrumental Huang Hua was in the warming of relations between the peoples of China and the United States. This, from a newspaper that is sometimes harsh toward China on human rights issues, so it must be said that even the New York Times appreciates the importance of Huang Hua.

    We with the Edgar Snow Memorial Fund all mourn his passing.
